Incheon Grand Bridge, the last piece of it finding its position completing the segments connecting works [Joongang ilbo]
Incheon Grand Bridge linking Yeongjong Island and the international business district of New Songdo City has finally been completed its segments connecting works in the 16th of December. With the last piece of segment being lifted up to its position, total length of 21.27km of 6 lanes carriageway has now been fully connected. The last segment of the Incheon Grand Bridge linking Incheon International Airport of Yeongjong Island and the International Business District
of New Songdo City is being lifted up. The two pylons are connected with 51 segments and each segment weighs 188ton and 12.3m in length.It is the longest bridge in the country and the 6th in the world that is 21.27km including the part that across the sea of 18.24km. The height of the pylon is 230.5m which is almost reaching the height of 63 Building, the tallest building in Seoul. The distance between the two pylons is 800m.
The longest bridge and the fifth largest project in the world has been fully connected by lifting up the last segment into its position in the 16th of December.
Grand Bridge linking Yeongjong Island and the International Business District of New Songdo City has now been completed about 87% of its construction process and is expecting to begin the operation in October 2009 when the remaining works have been completed. The bridge will be able to reduce the travel time between the New Songdo City and Incheon International Airport by up to 40 minutes. The center of the bridge is cable stayed section which has no piers but connected with cables and the center span is reaching 800m which make the fifth place in the world. The pylons are holding the structure with 140 cables and its height is 238.5m. It has been designed to support the wind of 72m/h and the warning signs which will be installed in every 2km are to prevent accidents that might be caused by fogAn internal source has said to the paper that the total cost for the project is about 1,600 billion Korean Won and structure construction will be completed by the end of February 2009.
